Childcare Superheroes Assemble!
Kids’ Country held its first conference called Childcare Superheroes Assemble! this past Saturday, March 12, 2016 with over 150 local youth workers in attendance. The conference program was created by Kids’ Country staff and site directors for childcare professionals wanting to continue their development in early childhood education.
The day kicked off with an inspiring message from Kids’ Country Executive Director, Stacy Litteral. She addressed key changes in the youth development field and how Kids’ Country adapts to the latest industry trends and the needs of the children we serve. Then keynote speaker and San Ramon resident, Sondra Perry, shared her personal story of turning simple life experiences into her passion—writing children’s books. The arrival of a wild bird in her backyard, Henry the Blue Heron, prompted discussions about life lessons to her stepchildren and evolved into a children’s book series.
Workshops included licensing compliance, edible education, anti-bullying, mindfulness, tinkering and ‘making.’ Partners from the San Ramon Unified School District joined us as well to present on important topics such as life threatening illnesses, demystifying common core, and physical fitness. Our Superhero attendees had the chance to mingle and network over lunch and had a chance to win some great raffle prizes. Feedback from the day was tremendously positive, so we look forward to the expansion of the conference in 2017!
