Kids' Country

During summer, Kids’ Country becomes Kids’ Camp.  Each site tries to change the way our space looks as much as possible, so it is as different from the school year as we can make it. We want children to feel they have a ‘vacation’ from school even though they are still on school grounds.  The room is decorated with bulletin boards representing a new theme for each week.  Children will have a variety of activities to participate in relating to the weekly theme.  The activities include arts & crafts, science, group games inside and outside and cooking projects.

Kids' Camp Getaway
This camp offers a camp experience for boys and girls ages 8 - 12 that extends beyond s'mores and ghost stories.  Campers participate in exciting activities and challenge courses that encourage cooperations and promote self esteem.  The week long camp in held at Alliance Redwoods in Occidental, California.

Clubs and Carnivals
Children look forward to special summer clubs like cooking projects, tie-dying and sports.  Each site also has carnivals where they are challenged to many fun games and win coupons to redeem prizes.

Field Trips and Special Presentations
We offer weekly field trips around the Bay Area.  Each site also has a swim afternoon each week at the California High School Olympic Pool in San Ramon.  Field trips are age specific and the younger children look forward to reaching the age when they can finally attend those field trips reserved for the older children.  We also bring in special presenters like ventriloquists, clowns and magicians to offer the children a special show.

Friendship and Team Building
Special friendships develop over the summer that often last a long time.  Many team building activities take place and children learn more about each other as they spend time with children they might not have chosen on their own.  The children look forward to seeing the staff and friends from previous summers.

Literature and Drama
We encourage a love of reading in the summer by offering many literature activities.  Leaders read stories and some of the classics while older children work on plays and puppet shows to perform for them.  Younger children are also encouraged to create their own plays, puppets and puppet shows.  There are many books for the children to choose from which children may keep in their cubbies until they are finished reading them.
